The Twedex Foundation were delighted to partner with Together We Learn Ethiopia recently to provide new kits for two football clubs supported by the charity in the towns of Bishoftu – located near the capital of Addis Ababa – and Gondar, in the north of the country.
Both clubs provide local young people with structured training sessions and matches led by qualified coaching professionals, in areas of the country where access to these services is not always straightforward.
The coaching sessions give the players the opportunity to take part in regular exercise while developing a range of skills including communication, teamwork and time-management.
While the players are incredibly hard working and commitment to the training programs, there is a lack of quality equipment which makes the continued improvement of the projects challenging for the players and coaches involved.
With a need for some new kits for the girls squads in Gondar and the U17 and U21 male squads in Bishoftu, the Twedex Foundation was honoured to be able to support by providing funds to allow these to be acquired locally in Ethiopia.
The kits can be seen in the images below, and we are so pleased to have been able to play a small part in improving the experiences of the players involved so that they can look the part when they take to the field.
The football programme supported by Together We Learn Ethiopia is close to the heart of Twedex safeguarding and ski lead Calum Erskine, who has worked with the organisation for a number of years, spending time in the country supporting the coaches and players on and off the pitch.
Speaking following the first collaboration with TWL since the launch of the Twedex Foundation’s, Calum was incredibly proud of the impact the new football kits have had on the players who received them recently.
He said: “It is fantastic to have the continued support of the Twedex Foundation for the work being done in Ethiopia. Having visited the country three times since starting work with them in 2013, I have had the pleasure of seeing the impact that new kits can have on the groups of players.
“This is the second time Twedex have been able to provide support, and both times it immediately injects motivation, enthusiasm and an increased sense of pride into the young people in the coaching groups. You can’t help but smile knowing the impact these new kits will have.”
A huge thank you to Caroline and the team at Together We Learn for their continued dedication and hard work. You can find out more about their amazing story by clicking here.
As the Twedex Foundation continues to grow we are excited to build on the good work being done so far. There are a number of projects to follow in the new year so stay tuned to the website for more updates.
